Following the fall in price for many mining products during 2008, global mining growth, which had been strong since late 2003, came to a sudden halt in late 2008. Many mines (notably nickel and diamond) have closed, and others (especially iron ore, copper and coal) have had expansion plans shelved.

Global Tire Supply Crisis Continues

The global crisis for the supply of earthmover (EM) tyres, that started in late 2003/early 2004, continues. Otraco predicts that the shortfall in global supply compared with demand will get worse before it gets better. Mining equipment sales are at record levels and the commodity boom remains in full swing (for the moment).

Otraco Tyre Fitter and Repair - Basic

The course consists of the following Otraco Modules:

Module 100 - Working Safely in a tyre workshop
Module 102 - Risk Management
Module 203 - Fitting and removing Earthmover wheels
Module 204 - Mounting and stripping Earthmover tyres
Module 209 - Fitting and Removing Light Vehicle wheels
Module 210 - Mounting and Stripping Light Vehicle tyres

The course contains of the following national units of competency:

AUR17665B - Remove fit and adjust wheels
AUR70508A - Carry out manual handling operations
AURCR20400A - Apply local risk control measures

Certificates

Successful completion of all the Modules will result in:

A certificate of Competency for "Otraco Tyre Fitting - Basic"
"Statements of Attainment" for the three nationally recognized units of competency.

Prerequisites

Meet the health and any other conditions necessary to work on a mine site.
